Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a management professional with accounting, leadership, and process improvement experience to serve as the capital accounting subject matter expert on its accounting team. The Sr. Manager of Fixed Asset Accounting will play a key role in the transformation and modernization of the accounting department.  In order to help facilitate this transformation (which is expected to take several years), this position will include building a culture of continuous improvement within the Fixed Asset Accounting department driven by staff development and innovative process design.  The successful candidate will manage the Fixed Asset Accounting team while building strong partnerships with other groups both within Finance and throughout the College. The position will be primarily responsible for the disciplined and timely management and accounting of the College’s fixed asset and project accounting processes, including project tracking, fixed asset policy and procedures, and management reporting.  This position will be responsible for developing, interpreting, and applying the College’s fixed assets policies and procedures as well as provide accounting and operational guidance to mission leaders, senior Finance leadership, and all College departments.  The position will also be responsible for leading and/or supporting various process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and improve accuracy.  Active participation in BCM’s SAP reimplementation will also be a key focus in this role. 

Job Duties
  • Manage a team of experienced professionals’ daily responsibilities and special projects.
  • Continually develop a strong team of professionals through personal mentoring, training, project opportunities and matching organizational skills to the delivered task.
  • Research, develop, communicate, and implement College capital policies and procedures in compliance with the College policies, GAAP, and the governmental Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), part 200 audit requirements.
  • Oversee the fixed asset sub ledger and associated reporting, including all related aspects of monthly financial close.
  • Perform appropriate technical accounting research to identify, interpret, and apply College policies related to project tracking and associated fixed asset setup.
  • Oversee and manage inputs to the fixed asset sub ledger, including acquisitions, dispositions, additions, retirements, impairments, depreciation, etc.
  • Maintain effective controls over fixed assets including monthly and quarterly analysis and coordination with internal and external auditors.
  • Prepare and/or review audit schedules relating to fixed assets and assist auditors with inquiries.
  • Work with the Budget department, mission leaders, Facilities and other departments to coordinate the accounting and processing of documentation for capital projects.
  • Monitor actual project spend to approved budgets and provide related management reporting.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance to the Budget office and other departments on appropriate accounting treatment for proposed capital projects.
  • Oversee the College’s asset inventory verification process.
  • Oversee the identification and tracking of Grant and Contract sponsor purchased assets and contractor owned equipment in accordance with applicable federal, state, local and contractual requirements.
  • Oversee the identification and tracking of assets purchased with the proceeds of tax-exempt bonds to assure compliance with applicable federal, state and local requirements.
  • Drive the successful implementation of the SAP s/4 Hana fixed assets management module.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Five years of relevant experience.  Degrees in lieu of experience is not accepted.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ten years or more of related work experience, including supervisory and leadership skills to assess, coach, develop and manage performance of others in an evolving environment.
  • CPA license.
