The Department of Surgery is offering a motivated and competent professional the opportunity to serve as a Senior Manager, Business Operations to lead the department's human resources operations. The ideal candidate is an experienced professional with advanced knowledge of HR guidelines and emerging business practices for the growth and development of employee operations. The perfect candidate will lead the assessment, design, and evaluation of talent development initiatives to reimagine the employee experience within the Department of Surgery, in addition to implementing workforce engagement and retention strategies in alignment with organization objectives.

Job Duties

  • Supervise department HR operations staff to ensure consistency and compliance in application of the phases within the employee life cycle. (10%)
  • In partnership with College HR Business Partners, analyze and recommend actionable solutions based on employment-related metrics and reports. (10%)
  • Implement and advise, in collaboration with the Human Resources Department, on employee relations related processes. (5%)
  • Provide leadership in the implementation of systems and strategies that promote optimal workforce job satisfaction and engagement (e.g. program planning, change management, after employee surveys). (15%)
  • Maintain current knowledge of the concepts, innovations and best practices related to workforce integration, talent development and training; coordinate and integrate into current and future HR strategies, goals, and initiatives as appropriate. (5%)
  • Provide consultation, training, and expertise to leaders regarding best practices in the design and implementation of employee training, including areas such as: presentation skills, training design framework, PowerPoint and other training tools, assessment, and evaluation. (15%)
  • Identify and design employee experience strategies, tools, and systems that span the employee lifecycle (e.g. pre-boarding, onboarding, off-boarding, communication, reward and recognition, engagement, performance management, etc.) for implementation within the department. (10%)
  • Lead the department HR operations team in the integration of the organization’s language, brand, culture, and values. (10%)
  • Provide compensation support, guidance, and training to business leaders. (5%)
  • Proactively monitor and analyze equity in compensation application within the department. (5%)
  • Apply change management tools, knowledge, and resources to department employees in support of organization wide objectives. (10%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Five years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • Five years of progressive experience in a workforce integration or talent development role.
  • Health care or human services experience preferred.
  • Ability to speak, read and write fluent English; ability to prepare business communication and reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style. Excellent presentation skills.
  • Experience researching/identifying/implementing workforce integration or talent development initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully train and coach staff to develop and apply knowledge and skill in a range of different areas.
  • Experience in capacity building and establishing frameworks for staff development. 
  • Experience working with leadership to develop and implement initiatives and strategic priorities.
  • Experience presenting to different audiences verbally, in writing and presentation formats.
  • Experience utilizing data to identify and develop strategies for talent development. 
  • Strong leadership skills with ability to effectively and professionally interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Excel and Word skills. Advanced PowerPoint skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills. Project management skills preferred.
  • HRIS experience preferred.  
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory, training and design research and best practices.
