This individual will have an essential role in the development of new technical solutions with the DDHI team, creating world-class learning solutions, and in architecting, creating, and improving learning products. In this role this individual will have responsibilities for developing content with faculty collaborators; publishing (in a new internally developed CPD platform designed to progressively tailor content delivered to match learner needs); monitoring utilization; and training faculty in methods and tools to enhance educational activity interactivity, quality, ease of access, and facilitated learning in alignment with evidenced-based methods.

Job Purpose

The Senior Instructional Designer participates in the planning, design, development, and delivery of high-quality, technology-enabled discovery and learning experiences. The instructional designer will work closely with educational leaders and faculty teaching in all modalities including technology enhanced face-to-face courses, online and hybrid or blended courses and programs. The Senior Instructional Designer will have responsibility for instructional design, project management, and collaboration with faculty to assist in the development of instructional materials to support transformation in curriculum design, innovative use of technology and enhanced learning outcomes.

Job Duties

  • Leads complex instructional design projects involving various clinical departments and College operational units, setting processes and systems for the ongoing development and collection of multiple educational activities as prioritized by the Editorial Board and in alignment with guidance and strategy provided by the CCIT leadership. As such should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, developing innovative solutions, and working autonomously while maintaining strong business relationships, collaborating across disciplines of expertise, and implementing learning project plans.
  • Plans and manages instructional design projects process, including elements of needs assessments; selection of evidenced-based educational methodologies and design solutions and strategies; implementation; dissemination and marketing; and evaluation methods including data collections and analysis in collaboration with the CCIT Associate Director for Evaluation. Recommends opportunities for revision and improvement in instructional and non-instructional solutions based on data.
  • As part of these efforts, responsibilities will also include conducting quality assurance of content and platform operations, assembling libraries indexed and positioned to enhance learner discoverability of content and recommendations, and working with the CCIT evaluation team to improve the platform, utilization, and outcomes (spanning the spectrum from learner performance to improved patient outcomes). This individual will also have an opportunity to work with CCIT’s Institute of Continuing Professional Development in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (I-QIPS) to transition quality improvement and patient safety content into online learning.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Five years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Four plus years of work experience with career progression in instructional design including significant experience in designing and delivering educational activities or training solutions ideally in the healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of participatory design process and human performance theory is desirable.
  • Advanced Multimedia development in audio, video, and/or animation and emerging trends (e.g., Illustrator, Photoshop, Vyond, Articulate-Rise, gamification, xAPI).


  • Working with the Senior IT Project Management Associate, identifies opportunities for enhancing customer service initiatives regarding the production, dissemination, and evaluation of content for the Baylor LMS. Customers include both internal and external project team members and stakeholders at the College, the Clinical Enterprise, the School of Medicine, affiliates, and all learners.
  • Facilitates the on-going process of quality improvement and enhancement while working with project teams, including content experts, faculty, medical writers, designers, developers, and other staff on assigned projects to create, publish, and “quality-assure” all new initiatives, while utilizing quality improvement methods to advance educational activity development processes and product effectiveness.
