Seeking a capable and experienced Linux System Administrator to provide cluster deployment and management, maintenance, technical, and day-to-day operational support of the CMMR Linux Red Hat system environment. Will be responsible for upgrading and maintaining the high-performance computing cluster (HPCC), installing and updating software and ensuring the computing needs of the Bioinformatics Team are met.

Job Duties

  • Oversee maintenance, technical administration and day-to-day operational support of the Linux platform computing technology environment
  • Perform preventative maintenances routines to ensure system availability and performance standards on Linux Systems
  • Install and upgrade computer components and software
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues
  • Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures
  • Recommend tuning for infrastructure, applications and server computing infrastructure
  • Assist with the project management of the implementation of Linux based systems
  • Ensure that storage, backup and recovery procedures and processes are functioning properly
  • Identify and evaluate future technologies for enterprise and departmental solutions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Database, network administration, or system administration experience
  • Management of HPCC, high-performance file systems and batch queue scheduler software
  • Experience using xCAT (Extreme Cloud Administration Toolkit) a plus
  • System administration and IT certifications in Red Hat are a plus
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategy and plans
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols
