We are seeking a capable and experienced Linux System Administrator to provide cluster deployment and management, maintenance, technical, and day-to-day operational support of the CMMR Linux Red Hat system environment. The candidate will be responsible for upgrading and maintaining the high-performance computing cluster (HPCC), installing and updating software and ensuring the computing needs of the Bioinformatics Team are met.


This position is eligible to work a hybrid work arrangement.

Job Duties

  • Oversees maintenance, technical administration and day-to-day operational support of the Linux platform computing technology environment.
  • Performs preventative maintenances routines to ensure system availability and performance standards on Linux Systems.
  • Installs and upgrades computer components and software.
  • Troubleshoots hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues.
  • Performs regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures.
  • Recommends tuning for infrastructure, applications and server computing infrastructure. Assists with the project management of the implementation of Linux based systems.
  • Ensures that storage, backup and recovery procedures and processes are functioning properly.
  • Identifies and evaluates future technologies for enterprise and departmental solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. Four years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 
  • Database, network administration, or system administration experience.
  • Management of HPCC, high-performance file systems and batch queue scheduler software.
  • Experience using xCAT (Extreme Cloud Administration Toolkit) a plus.
  • System administration and IT certifications in Red Hat are a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols.
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools.
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategy and plans.
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols.
