The BCMV team is seeking an experienced professional to perform complex financial duties supporting the VP and Chief Ventures Officer.

The Senior Financial Analyst will manage the financial, budgetary, and personnel operations of BCM Ventures (BCMV), leading the financial planning, implementation, measurement and reporting activities for the College's commercialization activities. The Senior Financial Analyst will oversee budget management, cost model analysis, financial analysis, distribution of license revenue, and provide financial and operational guidance on day-to-day commercialization activities as appropriate.

This position works with the team to provide data and analytics for monthly and executive leadership reports. The Senior Financial Analyst will oversee the proof of concept funding process, ensuring appropriate tracking of investments and coordination with Finance as needed to inform the College's accounting function. This position supports the BCMV assessment process by supporting the market research function, including competitive and investment analyses, interpretation of findings, and formulation of projections for growth.

Job Duties

  • Prepares, manages, and tracks annual BCM Ventures budget. 
  • Prepares, manages and reports on HR activities for the department.
  • Processes all invoices and ensures timely payment.
  • Assists with the development of financial statements.
  • Serves as a data analyst with the ability to query and process data, provide reports, summarize and visualize data, leveraging existing tools and methods to solve a problem, and help people from across the company understand specific queries with ad-hoc reports and charts.
  • Prepares summary slides of distributions to support timely communication to faculty, departments, and leadership.
  • Strengthens system for tracking investments and ensures up to date reporting by investment.
  • Understands and builds financial models including pricing models for commercialization opportunities.
  • Possesses a basic understanding of accounting principles and techniques including cost analysis. 
  • Oversees annual tax filings for BCM companies, ensuring accurate record keeping.
  • Tracks in-kind contributions for internally incubated commercial opportunities within SAP.
  • Monitors financial terms of active license agreements, and ensures timely invoicing of annual fees and AR related activities. 
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date contact information for inventors and other institutions who receive license revenue distributions from BCM. (Volume of approximately 800 transactions per year).
  • Ensures accurate and timely distribution of license revenue under the terms of the BCM Patent Policy to inventors, departments, the Baylor General Fund, other third party funding sources, and other academic institutions that co-own inventions with BCM. 
  • Verifies the accuracy of distributions with the appropriate BLG Project Manager prior to processing the distribution in SAP. 
  • Manages and tracks information related to inventors who are non-US citizens, including verification of citizenship status, verification of tax treaties that may be in place between the US and the inventor's country of citizenship for compliance with IRS regulations regarding tax withholding.
  • Generates IRS W-8BEN form as required for foreign inventors and sends to inventor for completion and signature.
  • Supplies completed BCM Royalty Payment form and W8-BEN form to BCM Accounting for payment distribution to inventors.
  • Interfaces with BCM Accounting and Finance Departments to insure that all royalty payment distributions are processed accurately.
  • Directly responds to inquiries from departments, institutions, and other inventors regarding license royalty payments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understand Excel and budget management systems, as well as financial analytics and reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Comfort level in tracking systems and metrics.
