Summary
The Department of Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to support and advance the financial performance of our clinical, research, and education missions. As a key member of the Department’s Business Office, this role is responsible for financial forecasting, funding support, supplemental payments, budget requests, and related financial operations. The Senior Financial Analyst reports to the Senior Business Operations Manager and partners closely with more than 80 faculty physicians and scientists to provide financial insight, analysis, and operational support.
The Department of Neurology provides personalized care for patients with neurological disease, trains medical students and residents in clinical care and research, conducts research to advance the science of neurology, and develops new therapies to improve patient outcomes.
This position is 100% onsite and may be eligible for up to 2 days remote per week after six months of employment.
Job Duties
- Participate in the annual budget development process, including financial modeling, data input, and analytical review. (20%)
- Perform financial analysis and prepare monthly forecasts and budget reports. (15%)
- Develop financial reports and presentations, including variance analyses and identification of financial risks and opportunities. (15%)
- Prepare and submit documentation for budget revisions, capital requests, and other financial requests, as needed. (10%)
- Process, review, and approve financial transactions including journal entries, travel requests, accounts receivable uploads, and purchase orders. (10%)
- Calculate and administer affiliate funding, including call pay and supplemental compensation. (10%)
- Develop and maintain financial models, monitor expenses, and assess departmental spending authority. (10%)
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support cost containment and improved financial performance. (5%)
- Communicate financial concepts clearly and effectively with faculty, scientists, and administrative leadership. (5%)
- Support or lead special projects as assigned.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field.
- Four years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrated experience in healthcare finance, financial analysis, budget development, and contract management.
- Demonstrated understanding of funding sources in academic medicine including grants, endowments, gifts, clinical revenue, and affiliate funding.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Previous experience with accounting systems or applications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information to Department leadership and personnel clearly.
- Ability to display a professional and positive attitude.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across the Department.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills.
