The Genetics Clinic  at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a  reliable Senior Coordinator, Patient Support Services who is proficient in delivering patient care in a high-paced, ambulatory care setting, while submitting insurance claims, tracking patient's seen in the genetics clinic, and effectively communicating between the genetics providers and patients. 

Job Duties

  • Reviews patient schedules for new patient appointments to assure appropriateness of referral and relevant medical records received.
  • Completes administrative calls to patients, healthcare providers, and genetic testing laboratories.
  • Answers questions about the status of insurance authorization, status of genetic testing, requests for clinic notes/school letters.
  • Sorts and reply to GC faxes.
  • Handles record requests and items that require physician signatures such as school OHI forms.
  • Writes letters of medical necessity (LMN), submit for billing investigations, or verification of benefits to insurance companies for routine tests (ex: CMA, Fragile X, common panels).
  • Communicate status of genetic test approval process to families
  • Sends families genetic test consent instructions, fill out requisition and blood draw forms for genetic tests and ready them for pick-up by families.
  • Assists with coordination of genetic testing.
  • Collects samples that will be directly shipped to a testing lab (Ex: GeneDx).
  • Resolves problems with missing samples, missing parental signatures, etc.
  • Interacts with faculty, staff and students to promote the goals and objectives of the genetic clinics.
  • Presents project data and components to health care professionals at our team meetings.
  • Maintains patient database
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Four years of relevant experience.
