This role provides support to the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (GHN) by coordinating medical review and appointment scheduling of new hepatology patient referrals. The Senior Coordinator, Patient Support Services serves as a liaison to referring physicians and parents who inquire about TCH hepatology clinical services, using a variety of communication modalities, including telephone, e-mail, e-fax and fax.

Job Duties

  • Coordinates the day to day hepatology patient referral processes for the Division of GHN.
  • Coordinates new liver patient referrals by obtaining new patient medical information including relevant medical records, radiology studies and liver biopsy slides with reports. Assembles a brief but relevant medical referral packet to be reviewed by the Director or other pediatric hepatologist.
  • Coordinates cases to be presented at monthly Pathology Conferences.
  • Assists with tracking details of each new Hepatology Referral.
  • Assists with credentialing and onboarding faculty and staff.
  • Coordinates department meetings, events, and other functions.
  • Schedules initial appointments or consultations for the family.
  • Processes abdominal radiology studies placed on CD (Di Com format) from outside facility to TCH Diagnostic Imaging (4th floor), Clinical Care Center.
  • Scans all relevant medical records to the patient’s TCH electronic medical record.
  • Brings submitted biopsy slides from outside hospital to TCH pathology for accessioning and formal pathologic consultation.
  • Coordinates interstate hepatology telemedicine consultations with the referring provider and patient’s family.
  • Maintains list of new patient referrals on a daily and monthly basis by Year, Month, Name, MRN, diagnosis, provider and e-mail monthly list to Director of Hepatology.
  • Provides administrative support for Liver Pathology Conference (held 1st Wed. of each month) by assembling 3-4 submitted cases by MRN, diagnosis, primary hepatologist, pathologist.
  • Picks up and delivers mail daily and weekly.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Patient care and patient care coordination experience.
  • Experience building rapport with referring physicians and families.
