Title: Senior Coordinator, Patient Support Services
Summary
The Bobby R. Alford Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery is in search of a Senior Coordinator, Patient Support Services to join our growing clinical team. This position will positively contribute to our patients' experience by communicating with professionalism and compassion, and serving as a liaison to the department. The senior coordinator will provide clinical support by managing surgical schedules, reaching out to patients regarding referrals, preoperative instructions, and appointments. They will work closely with departmental clinical staff, as well as partners in BCM's business office, and will regularly interact with affiliate hospital staff.
Job Duties
- Coordinates with health care facilities for patient surgeries, tests, or procedures.
- Communicates pre-operative instructions and requirements for medical clearance to patients, facilitates financial clearance prior to surgeries or procedures.
- Assembles medical records and insurance information for patient appointments.
- Orders specialized supplies or equipment needed for surgeries or procedures.
- Functions as surgery scheduler and administrative support for multiple physicians.
- Supports patient access to department by staffing 'Live Answer' phone line, resolving patient requests in real time.
- Responds to patient phone messages and electronic communication pertaining to supported physicians' clinical practice as appropriate.
- Coordinates with clinical staff members to support patients through pre and post-operative process, provide education to patient and family members about location of surgery and what to expect after discharge.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Four years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in healthcare, particularly in an academic or surgical/procedural practice.
- Experience using an EMR such as Epic, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Prior experience coordinating multiple, complex schedules.
