Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

Baylor College of Medicine’s David J. Sugarbaker Division of Thoracic Surgery within the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking a Senior Coordinator, Patient Support Services to ensure detailed and timely scheduling of patient visits, tests, or procedures for a busy and growing clinical practice. This position will provide ongoing, focused patient follow-up for a team of surgeons during and after their respective clinic days. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, have impeccable accountability and focus to synthesize information and prioritize direction from all providers and management. 

Job Duties

  • Organizes and schedules established patient appointments including post-operative office visits, radiology, testing, and procedures.
  • Reviews patient charts for timely insurance verification and referral authorizations prior to appointments and communicates any delays to clinical team and managers to avoid unnecessary cancellations.
  • Maintains detailed and accurate patient records by collecting and entering medical imaging and reports into electronic medical record systems, including the PACS System and EPIC.
  • Obtains appropriate orders, written approvals, and documents for patient tests by interfacing with providers to identify current and future needs.
  • Receives and distributes patient records from primary care physicians for review by Thoracic providers.
  • Reviews and organizes incoming faxes pertinent to patient care oversight within scope of role.
  • Initiates follow-up correspondence with referring physician offices as needed.
  • Completes any task requested via email or fax that are addressed directly to the clinic coordinator.
  • Daily verification of all dispositions notated for task follow-up and completion.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree may be considered in lieu of four years of experience.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration Preferred (but not required): Medical Assistant certification through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NAHP, or equivalent credentialing body)
  • Front office medical scheduling experience.
