Salary Range:  $43,065 - $50,665

Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Senior Coordinator, Patient Support Services will provide support to genetic counselors, physicians, and their patients for the pediatric oncology, hematology, and vascular anomalies clinics providing genetics services.

 

The candidate will work closely with a team of genetic counselors, geneticist, and non-genetics providers in this unique specialty area in a clinical setting. The individual will serve as a point of contact for families seeking genetic services through the clinic to aid them in preparing for their appointment and follow-up activities. The individual will also serve as a liaison between multiple other genetic specialty areas or departments relevant to the multidisciplinary care of genetics patients and their families.   

Job Duties

  • Obtains complete and detailed information from callers to the clinical genetic offices including new patients, established patients and referring providers.
  • Collects necessary records such as previous genetic testing, medical records, family history, and HIPAA authorizations in advance of patient appointments.
  • Aids families in the scheduling of appointments and for subsequent appointments for family members.
  • Aids in preparing letters of medical necessity and related documentation with guidance from the genetic counselor for insurance pre-authorization and appeals. Tracks the pre-authorization process.
  • Contact laboratories to determine necessary requirements for specific genetics tests. Completes testing requisition forms.
  • Track incoming genetic testing reports and communicate results to genetic counselors.
  • Assists genetic counselors in drafting results follow-up letters for patients and clinicians. Mails and/or faxes follow-up documentation to patients and outside referring providers.
  • Conducts clinical data entry and patient tracking guided by existing protocols.
  • Attends clinic as needed to assist genetic counselors in clinic related tasks.
  • Participates in planning meetings relevant to the genetic counseling process and workflow.
  • Interacts with faculty, staff and students to promote the goals and objectives of the oncology and hematology genetics clinics.
  • Presents project data and components to health care professionals at our team meetings.
  • Follows all patient confidentiality rules and regulations.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science or health related field.
  • Undergraduate genetics coursework.
  • Excellent oral and written professional communication skills.
  • Strong interest in genetics related professions (e.g., pursuing graduate level academic training in Genetic Counseling or related health field).
