Summary
The Senior Coordinator, Communications supports the dissemination, reporting, and visibility of research conducted through Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) and the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC). This role coordinates research communications, compliance-related documentation, and program reporting across the Center for Translational Research on Inflammatory Diseases (CTRID) and other BCM-VA initiatives. The position develops content for diverse audiences, including translating scientific research into accessible language for public and stakeholder engagement. Working closely with leadership, this role strengthens communication strategies that highlight the impact of BCM-VA research on Veteran health and scientific advancement.
Job Duties
- Supports the communications, reporting, and coordination infrastructure for research programs within CTRID and BCM-VA collaborative initiatives. On a typical work week, the role develops and edits a range of communication materials, including newsletters, reports, presentations, and web content, and translates scientific findings into lay-language summaries for broader dissemination.
- Responsible for collecting, organizing, and validating research output data (e.g., publications, presentations, and funded projects) across BCM-VA investigators and preparing summaries and reports for leadership, program evaluation, and external stakeholders. It also supports compliance-related communications, including assisting investigators with submission of research outputs to VA Office of Research & Development systems and coordinating documentation required for federal and institutional reporting.
- Coordinates scientific and educational events, including seminar series, workshops, and recruitment activities, managing logistics for in-person and virtual formats. The position maintains communication platforms, tracks recurring deliverables, and supports CTRID leadership in ensuring timely and accurate reporting and dissemination of research activities.
- Develops and disseminates research communications materials, including newsletters, reports, presentations, web, and social media content. Translate scientific findings into lay-language summaries for public and stakeholder audiences. Maintain CTRID and BCM-VA communication platforms.
- Collects and tracks research outputs, including publications, presentations, and funded projects. Prepares summaries and reports for leadership and program evaluation. Validates research productivity data and support reporting for BCM and VA stakeholders.
- Coordinates communications related to VA and BCM reporting requirements. Assists investigators with submission of research outputs and prepare compliance-related documentation. Liaises with BCM and MEDVAMC offices to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Coordinates scientific and educational events, including seminars and recruitment activities. Manages logistics, scheduling, and materials for meetings and events. Maintains program calendars and support training program reporting.
- Provides administrative support to CTRID and BCM-VA leadership. Maintain communication systems and track recurring deliverables. Supports special projects and evolving programmatic needs.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Four years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting research programs or working in an academic, healthcare, or federal environment.
• Experience with scientific writing, editing, and translating research for diverse audiences.
• Familiarity with NIH and/or VA research reporting processes.
• Experience with website content management and digital communications platforms.
• Strong data organization and reporting skills.
• Experience coordinating events, training programs, or research-related activities.
