The Office of the Provost is seeking a professional to be responsible for understanding, organizing, planning, and advocating for the space needs of the Education Mission. This role will require collaborative efforts with unit, school, and central leadership roles to understand the respective needs and assist in developing a successful space plan. Educational space includes, but is not limited to, classrooms, learning laboratories, faculty/student/staff offices, student study/lounge and support areas, and collaborative spaces in support of Baylor College of Medicine schools and programs. 

This position also supports the academic operations, data analysis, emergency preparedness, record retention, etc. as well as continuous process improvement projects. 

This position will report to the Vice Provost of Education Mission Planning and Operations.

Job Duties

Education Facilities/Space Management

  • Works with constituents to develop space allocation policies and guidelines that fully utilize instructional, meeting and academic/student support facilities.
  • Coordinates the schedule building process in collaboration with the schools and programs; to be in alignment with the space allocation policies and guidelines.|
  • Oversees the process for allocating educational space for scheduled classes and events using college provided scheduling software(s) and tools.
  • Creates, coordinates, and facilitates business processes for maintaining accurate space information.
  • Develops and publishes key space metrics including space allocation, utilization, availabilities, etc.
  • With oversight from the Vice Provost of Education Mission Planning and Operations, the position works with the members of the Provost Cabinet, faculty, and staff of all levels to develop short-term and long-range space plans to support operations, growth and strategic initiatives.
  • Conduct routine inspections of educational space and develops remediation plans for repairs and refreshes.  In addition, tracks/prioritizes requests for space maintenance and improvement.  Drafts budget proposals and evaluates estimated costs.
  • Partners with education and facilities leadership teams to design and build-out specific spaces. 

Academic Operations


  • Develops the infrastructure and processes to collect, store, and manage operational data.  Prepare, and disseminate analytical reports to support operational efficiency, decision making and continuous improvement projects. 
  • Participates in annual planning activities and develops capital budget for educational space enhancement and development. 
  • Triages day-to-day operational issues. Researches pressing issues and presents options for resolution.
  • Provide other academic operational support activities such as disaster recovery, emergency planning, etc.
  • Plan and/or perform continuous improvement projects as assigned by Vice Provost Education Mission Planning and Operations utilizing process improvement and project management methodologies.
Minimum Qualifications


  • Required:  Bachelor’s degree in Architectural or Industrial Engineering, Facilities Management, Business Administration, Educational Administration or other related field.
  • Required:  Minimum of five years of progressive experience in the following areas:  planning and analysis, logistics and scheduling, project management, process improvement.
Preferred Qualifications



  • Preferred:  Master’s degree in related field; PMP certification, Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Preferred:  Space management experience in higher education institutions.



  • Proficiencies in use of business statistics and in the use of appropriate software programs, including word processing and spreadsheets, as well as familiarity with database development and retrieval techniques.
