Summary

Internal Title:  Senior Compliance Associate

Conducts activities related to the development, implementation, and maintenance of Baylor College of Medicine's HIPAA Privacy Program in accordance with Federal and Texas law. This role reports up to the Senior Manager, Compliance.

Job Duties

  • Assists in the identification, development, update and implementation of the College’s HIPAA privacy policies and procedures under the guidance of and in coordination with the Senior Manager, Compliance, to meet Federal and Texas privacy laws/regulations.
  • Develops and delivers in-person and computer-based education on complex HIPAA privacy content.
  • Responsible for the tracking of and reporting on privacy guidance, investigations and continuous update of key performance indicators.
  • Conducts timely investigation, resolution, and response to advanced HIPAA privacy concerns/complaints following Baylor College of Medicine processes in collaboration with the Senior Manager, Compliance.
  • Builds collegial relationships and effectively communicates and collaborates with affiliate partners to address shared privacy concerns and coordinates investigations with appropriate follow-through to completion and documentation.
  • Reviews, approves and monitors all business associate agreements and data use agreements.
  • Assists in initial and periodic risk assessments based on internal and external HIPAA privacy activities.
  • Assists in responding to HIPAA privacy questions and provides guidance to the College’s workforce members.
  • Works collaboratively with the College's Information Security Officer as necessary to ensure compliance with HIPAA privacy standards.
  • Under the guidance of the College's Privacy Officer, assists in reporting HIPAA privacy breaches and responding to inquiries and requests for information from the Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights.
  • Serves as a resource and mentor to junior team members.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate or Masters of Jurisprudence or HIPAA privacy experience.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Healthcare Privacy experience.
