Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

Baylor College of Medicine's Innovative Design and Engineering Applications (IDEA) lab at Texas Heart Institute is seeking a Senior Biomedical Engineering Associate with electrical engineering or mechanical engineering background to join our research team. Will support the electrical and electronic efforts to design, develop and test electrical systems for an implantable left ventricular assist device to treat heart failure patient. A broad understanding of the technical fields of electrical and electronic design is essential for this role. The Senior Biomedical Engineering Associate will semi-independently plan and execute experiments, and engage in data collection, analysis, and interpretation, participate in grant submissions, and participate in writing manuscripts. 

Job Duties

  • Support development and manufacturing of the electronic and electrical subsystems including motor, magnetic bearing and motor controller.
  • Support digital and analog electronic device development, including: digital and analog circuit design; low voltage circuit design, printed circuit board (PCB) layout; motor control and physiological flow parameters; microprocessor-based designs for embedded applications.
  • Prepare design documents, electrical schematics/drawings; technical files, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), test strategies, test/verification procedures.
  • Use of laboratory tools including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and related equipment to diagnose and debug erroneous behaviors.
  • Work with vendors and contractors for prototype manufacturing, PCB fabrication, and product assembly.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. 
  • Four years of relevant experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master or Ph.D. from Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience in the digital and analog electronic device development and testing of medical devices
  • Understanding of control theory, embedded firmware (C, C++, etc.)
  • PCB design and testing
  • Familiarity engineering software tools such as MATLAB, SolidWorks, Comsol, Ansys, Labview, DSpace
