Job Title:  Senior Accountant
Division:  Duncan Cancer Center
Work Arrangement:  Hybrid
Location:  Hybrid within Greater Houston, TX
Salary Range:  $79,092 - $90,000
FLSA Status:  Exempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

This position will work closely with the Administrator/Center. The primary duties include account reconciliations, budget revisions and transfers, reporting and budget. Monitors accounts to ensure spending and balances are on track as budgeted and planned for fiscal year. 

Job Duties

  • Maintains updated accounts (structure/transfers/revisions).
  • Reviews accounts daily and monitors spending and requests on cross dept. spending and shared accounts to ensure spending as budgeted. Performs monthly forecasting in accordance with college timelines.
  • Prepares regular financial reports and provides long range financial analyses to leadership and Principal Investigators.
  • Works collaboratively with Administration and grants team with accounting requests and tasks.
  • Monitors and facilitates pre and post grants finance activities.
  • Through financial analysis, identifies income and expense trends and recommends action plans.
  • Monitors all expenses for the entire Center including seed, grants, pilot study funding, endowment accounts and state funds. 
  • Monitors income and expense trends and forecasting from year to year to help guide leadership decisions. 
  • Reviews and approves transactions in Concur and other financial entries and transactions such as journal vouchers and purchase orders.
  • Trains lower-level accounting staff. 
  • Prepares and monitors budgets.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience in an academic institution.
  • SAP and Concur.
  • Must be highly proficient in spreadsheets and generating reports.
  • Excellent communication skills.
