Provides responsible and skilled technical assistance in support of research projects by completing experiments pertaining to cancer research. The Patient-derived Xenograft and Advanced In vivo Models Core is an Advanced Technology Core Laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine. Our Core provides the resources necessary for laboratories to establish patient-derived tumor models in animals to be used for in vivo research projects.

Job Duties

  • Prepares and conducts in vitro and in vivo laboratory research experiments.
  • Collects, compiles and critically analyzes data.
  • Designs in vivo animal studies, create templates in StudyLog, and lead study.
  • Performs blood collection and surgical procedures on rodents.
  • Administers treatments to rodents by oral gavage, intraperitoneal injection, or subcutaneous injection.
  • Is proficient in cell culture techniques. 
  • Assists core director with billing and other administrative tasks.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Selects, evaluates and applies techniques used in routine research.
  • Reviews literature for novel in vivo models that may be useful to the core.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
