Dr. Joanna Yi's laboratory at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM)/Texas Children's Hospital is seeking a talented research technician III to work on developing targeted drugs for pediatric cancers in collaboration with BCM's Center for Drug Discovery (CDD). The Yi lab seeks to identify and drug relevant, lynchpin targets in pediatric cancers through a multidisciplinary approach including chemical biology, chromatin biology, cell and molecular biology, and assay development. Concurrently, we want to generate biomarker assays of activity that potentially could be used in clinical trials. We have unique access to screen our targets with the CDD's drug libraries, including the >3.1 billion DNA-encoded chemical library and the robotics available to design and run high-throughput screens. There is also a significant effort in the lab to characterize the transcriptional control of pediatric AML which should uncover novel, druggable dependencies in vitro and in vivo which will require validation before drug screening with the CDD.  



Job Duties
  • Under supervision, will work on genetically validating an identified druggable target in pediatric AML (e.g. shRNA, CRISPR, etc) and also bringing the validated target to and through drug screening, including possibly protein purification but also biochemical assay development

  • Cell cycle analysis
  • Biochemical and cell-based assay development (including use of drug and liquid handling devices)
  • Chromatin immunoprecipitation
  • Handling primary patient samples, including ex vivo drug treatments
  • Mouse dissection
  • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments
  • Collects, compiles and analyzes data
  • Documents results of experiments
  • Selects, evaluates and applies techniques used in routine research
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Experience Required: One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Prefer at least one year of relevant experience in areas of cancer biology, molecular biology, chemical biology, or chromatin biology.
  • Experience with chromatin immunoprecipitation, assay development (cell-free and cell-based assays), compound management and drug combination experience, and recombinant protein production in bacterial and/or mammalian expression systems.
  • Should be highly motivated and ambitious, organized and anticipate problems, eager to take ownership of projects and productive in data generation, and willing to work with collaborators in a team.
