Summary
This Research Technician III will work in a team to perform genetic screens to identify CRISPR insertions in specific genes using Drosophila (fruit flies). This involves working with stereomicroscopes to set up breeding schemes with multiple Drosophila strains. This technician will also perform behavioral assays to characterize the phenotypes associated with the isolated mutants. She will optimize and reconfigure the six databases that we currently use.
Job Duties
- Drosophila genotyping using PCR.
- Perform Western blot experiments.
- Immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy:
- Data analysis using ImageJ, photoshop, and excel
- Record results in digital notebook - Conducts assays to assess and quantify neurotoxic protein levels using immunoblotting techniques.
- Conducts histopathological analyses from Drosophila brain sections immunostained with specific antibodies.
- Present acquired data regularly in lab meetings.
- Address issues related to the databases and include better searchability.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
- This position is for recent graduates looking to gain research experience before pursuing gradute education.
