Summary
The Population Sciences Biorepository (PSB) is an ATC core facility that provides support and services for biospecimen processing/storage in the DLDCCC and throughout BCM and the Texas Medical Center. This position will support all of the core projects with daily duties that includes receipt/fractionization of biospecimens, sample acquisition, data entry/documentation, sample shipment, inventory management, and other related duties as assigned. This technician should have excellent communication and organizational skills.
Job Duties
- Receives biological samples from various clinics after which they are inventoried, fractionated, and stored according to existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Creates/update/revises SOPs as needed.
- Assists in preparing biological samples for shipment and analysis.
- Documents/tracks samples using relavant databases.
- Prepares samples for analysis/shipment and helps generate proper documentation for transfer of samples.
- Controls inventory by tracking/updating inventory management system.
- Assists with equipment, maintenance, repair, and calibration.
- Assists with the generation of reports on laboratory supply inventory, laboratory expenses, and biospecimen inventory for multiple projects.
- Works in collaboration with other staff to ensure all projects are completed in a timely/efficient manner.
- Coordinates sample acquisition from DLDCCC and other TMC affiliated clinics/hospitals to ensure timely transfer/processing of all biological samples.
- Attends weekly meeting with laboratory, clinical coordinators, and management to ensure all projects stay on track and addresses any issues that may arise.
- Trains junior staff and assign tasks as directed by the supervisor.
- Works with laboratory directors to develop and test new techniques/assays to support core projects.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Has excellent communication and organizational skills.
