Salary Range:  $39,150 - $46,059
FLSA Status:  Nonexempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Department of Neurology- Neuroscience, is looking for a full time Research Technician III with experience in multidisciplinary neuroscience/genetics to assist research in an active NIH funded laboratory program investigating mouse models of epilepsy. Projects involve in vivo/in vitro electrophysiological microelectrode and EEG analysis, small animal surgery, immunohistochemistry  and related RNA techniques.

Job Duties

  • 80% Laboratory Research Operations
    • Genotyping- Sending mouse DNA samples for analysis
    • Immunohistochemistry- Cutting brain sections and staining them with specific antibodies
    • Analyze the results of all collected and compiled data explained in all duties and report them to the PI
    • Support in maintaining the mouse colony
    • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • 15% Laboratory Research Administration and Support
    • May develop and modify computer programs
    • Record keeping
    • Image analysis- Using computerized software to quantify the stained brain sections
    • Will work with faculty researcher along with other technicians who will train in specialized techniques. 
  • 5% Other responsibilities
    • Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment and environment
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • General laboratory and mouse colony experience.
  • Prior experience in neuroscience and interest in disease models
