Title: Research Technician III - Mouse Colony Management
Summary
The primary purpose of the Research Technician III position is to carry out various supervised animal research projects, maintain a mouse colony, and coordinate lab supply maintenance and ordering. The technician will have extensive experience with mice. The lab studies retinal biology and the applicant with this additional experience or related fields is desirable. This technician position is an outstanding opportunity for career development for recent science graduates interested in biomedical research and/or future advanced degree training in the biomedical sciences or medicine. Job Duties
- Performs mouse colony maintenance that includes genotyping and appropriate record keeping.
- Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment, ordering, and the general lab environment.
- Plans, directs, and conducts supervised research experiments.
- Documents results of experiments and reports to principal investigator and during the lab meetings.
- Applies molecular biology, histology, behavioral testing, and cell culture techniques to understand disease mechanisms.
- Learns and become proficient with techniques related to retinal dissection, retinal histology, mouse vision testing, and retinal cell culture.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Experience with mice, mouse genotyping, mouse colony maintenance.
- Experience in retinal biology or related fields is desirable.
