Summary
Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Rheumatology Service at Texas Children’s Hospital is seeking a highly motivated, responsible, and organized individual to join a translational research team focused on rare immune diseases. The Vogel Lab studies cytokine signals and the Research Technician III will help meet the needs of the research that serves the children and families of Houston and the surrounding areas, the Southeast Region of Texas, nationally, and internationally.
Provides responsible technical assistance in support of research using both mouse models and patient-derived samples to gain a better understanding of the origins of autoimmunity, in which the immune system targets self. Completes experiments requiring a basic knowledge of techniques and practices related to immunology. After training, works under minimal supervision from a higher-level research staff member. A person with experience in tissue culture, quantitative PCR, ELISA and other protein analyses like immunoprecipitation and Western blot techniques is preferred. The successful candidate will be motivated to learn, organized and detail oriented.
Job Duties
- Laboratory Research & Technical Support -
• Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments using mouse models and patient-derived samples.
• Handles blood and tissue samples with sterile technique.
• Selects, evaluates, and applies techniques used in routine research (e.g., tissue culture, qPCR, ELISA, Western blot).
• Works with a team to coordinate the collection, processing, and shipping of samples. - Data Management & Analysis -
• Collects, compiles, and analyzes data.
• Documents results of experiments.
• Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study or project.
• Assists in the preparation of laboratory reports. - Compliance & Quality Assurance
- Assists with general laboratory maintenance, including laboratory regulation compliance.
• Maintains equipment and keeps work areas neat, clean, and orderly. - Administrative & Operational Support
• Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
