Summary

The Department of Radiation Oncology at the Baylor College of Medicine is recruiting for a Research Technician III to support clinical and translational research projects by coordinating the collection of patient imaging data and performing precise image segmentation (contouring) of anatomical structures and tumors. This role is critical for building high-quality datasets for machine learning, treatment planning studies, and radiomics research. The successful candidate will navigate clinical databases, ensure data de-identification compliance (HIPAA), and utilize advanced imaging software to process multi-modality datasets (CT, MRI, PET).

Job Duties

  • Data Collection & Extraction
    Clinical Data Mining: Identify and extract relevant patient cohorts from Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Radiation Oncology Information Systems (e.g., Aria, Mosaiq).
    Imaging Retrieval: Query and retrieve DICOM images from PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) and Treatment Planning Systems (TPS) like Eclipse, RayStation.
  • Image Processing & Segmentation
    Software Utilization: Use specialized research software such as ITK-SNAP or 3D Slicer for image labeling and segmentation.
    Quality Assurance: Review segmented datasets for accuracy, consistency, and adherence to international contouring guidelines (e.g., RTOG, ASTRO).
    Format Conversion: Convert clinical DICOM files into research formats (NIfTI, NRRD) for analysis.
    Scripting: Write script for data analysis.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
