Summary

Texas Children's Hospital Center for Vaccine Development at Baylor College of Medicine https://www.texaschildrensglobalhealth.org/vaccine-development is seeking a research technician to support the process development of several vaccine candidates against coronaviruses and other neglected tropical diseases. The technician will learn basic biochemical, microbiology and molecular biology tools commonly used in all labs. The technician will also be trained to perform fermentation in bioreactor and protein purification using column chromatography. It's a great opportunity for recent graduates looking to gain research experience before pursuing graduate/medical education. Occasionally be able to lift up bioreactor vessels up to 50 lbs when required. 

Job Duties

  • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments.
  • Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Documents results of experiments.
  • Selects, evaluates and applies techniques used in routine research.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Assists in performing fermentation in a bioreactor and protein purification using column chromatography.
  • Performs SDS-PAGE and Western Blot to analyze the results of fermentation and purification.
  • Performs fermentation in bioreactor and protein purification using column chromatography.
  • Prepares laboratory reagents and checks inventory regularly to ensure well stocked and efficient laboratory operations.
  • Assists with glassware cleaning, chemical waste disposal and the maintenance of equipment.
  • Maintains an accurate, up-to-date, organized, and legible lab notebook that records all data according to methods requested.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Be able to lift up bioreactor vessels up to 50 lbs.
