The Research Technician will assist with routine management of daily operations of a laboratory investigating metabolic liver disorders. Will be expected to conduct laboratory research experiments using molecular biology techniques, as well as, working with animal mouse colonies. Will also be responsible for maintaining accurate laboratory records and organization of the laboratory.  Must have a positive attitude and eagerness to learn new laboratory techniques, excellent communication skills, and work well with others.

Job Duties

  • Conduct laboratory research experiments: genomic DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, Western blotting, genotyping and other basic molecular biology techniques.
  • Mouse colony management: maintain breeding colonies and genotyping.
  • Record keeping: document experimental results and maintain accurate records. Also, keep laboratory records.
  • Lab maintenance: assist with ordering lab supplies and maintaining an organized lab.
  • May attend departmental research conferences.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a basic science laboratory
  • Previous experience working with laboratory animals
  • Experience with statistical analysis programs and Microsoft Excel
