Job Purpose

There is an exciting opportunity for a Technician to join the lab of Dr. Ira within the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics, to assist with experiments in yeast molecular genetics. The applicant will be expected to be highly motivated and well organized. The projects center on budding and fission yeast genetics. It will require the implementation of techniques in cell and molecular biology, and genetics. The applicant will receive lab training in molecular biology and will have the opportunity to grow these and other skills. 

Job Duties

The responsibilities include preparation of growth media, preparation of stock solutions, ordering replacement supplies and maintaining laboratory equipment. In addition, the technician will assist members of the laboratory to perform molecular genetic experiments, including genomic DNA isolation, yeast transformation, plasmid construction and PCR genotyping. 

Applicants will be expected to communicate and cooperate to all levels of employees, and be able to recognize problems as they occur and determine and/or recommend the appropriate solution. Seeks guidance as necessary for the performance of duties and asks appropriate questions when in doubt, utilizing reference sources/materials to endure accuracy. Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention. Maintains the confidentiality of all research information.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a basic science or related field.
  • Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required
