Job Purpose

Performs the routine elements of research work that requires the use of skills, technical and academic knowledge to follow established procedures and record results.

Job Duties

Research Technician II position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Irina Larina in the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics at the Baylor College of Medicine. We are a dynamic highly collaborative team of optical engineers and biologists, investigating biomechanical aspects of biological processes in mouse models of human disorders. Our studies bring together optical system design, OCT, confocal/multiphoton microscopy, optogenetics, technology development in functional optical imaging and data processing (4D angiography, cilia beat mapping, cardiodynamic analysis, elastography), vital fluorescent reporters, genetic mouse models of human disorders, developmental and reproductive biology questions.
The responsibilities include, but not limited to optical coherence tomography imaging, data analysis, mouse colony management, genotyping, histological analysis, basic molecular biology, mouse surgical procedures, record keeping, ordering, and other general lab duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.

Preferred Qualifications

The applicant should have previous relevant laboratory experience in the area of biomedical imaging and spectroscopy, exceptional work ethics, great attention to details, and enthusiasm to learn new methods. Computational and imaging skills are a plus.
