Summary

A skilled research technician position is open within a research laboratory at the Children's Nutrition Research Center, at Baylor College of Medicine. The technician is expected to perform the routine elements of research work that requires the use of skills, technical and academic knowledge to maintain the productivity of the laboratory. Responsibilities that includes preparing biologic samples for analysis, running laboratory tests, recording data, ensuring high accuracy, maintaining equipment in good working condition, creating and maintaining organizational systems.

Job Duties

  • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments.
  • Prepares biological samples for analysis.
  • Runs laboratory tests.
  • Records data.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment in good working condition.
  • Creates and maintains organizational systems.
  • Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
  • Documents results of experiments.
  • Ensures high accuracy of laboratory assays.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Selects, evaluates and applies techniques used in routine research.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Organizes content of freezers and maintains accurate records.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in laboratory techniques (ELISA; Multiplex assays, Colorimetric assays).
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment (e.g. YSI for glucose determination, Roche  Elecsys machine operation, Magpix)
  • Expertise in Isotope derivatization and mass spectrometry are desired additional skills.
  • Has good skills set for maintenance of laboratory records.
  • Has good organizational, interpersonal, and problem solving skills.
