Summary

Dr. Jason Lee of Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a technician to assist in managing and conducting experiments the laboratory using advance fluorescence microscopy, biochemical and molecular biology techniques. Dr. Lee's research focuses on understanding how and why contact sites form between membrane-bound organelles and mRNA-protein condensates in health and disease. The technician will be responsible for conducting and documenting research experiments, which includes developing skills related to optimizing experimental technique, collection, and data analysis and interpretation. Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment and lab environment.

Job Duties

  • Assists in maintenance of the lab, autoclaving, making buffer solutions, cleaning glassware and performing basic molecular biology experiments.
  • Handles routine ordering and scheduling, maintains organization of the lab and its reagents, trains others in various cellular and molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, cell culture), and assists in research projects as necessary.
  • Conducts and documents research experiments, which includes developing skills related to optimizing experimental technique, collection, and data analysis and interpretation.
  • Maintains lab notebooks (physical and/or digital), contributes to database maintenance, prepares reports, and supports development of presentations and publications.
  • Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment and lab environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One or more years of research experience is a plus.
