Title: Research Technician II
Summary
The department is seeking an exceptional, creative, and thought-provoking technician to join a vibrant group of Molecular Biologists and Microbiologists charged with understanding the molecular basis of mutation and cell evolution. The technician be familiar with basic Microbiology and Molecular Biology with strong analytical and technical skills with attention to detail and willing to take instruction. There are multiple projects to choose from with a high-level of flexibility offered. This is an opportunity to join a vibrant and creative team at a leading medical school in the largest medical center in the world.
Job Duties
- Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments that includes growth plating, PCR, phage purification, DNA preps, sterility testing.
- Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
- Maintains a detailed lab notebook and uses Benchling for electronic notes.
- Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study that includes reading papers in Microbiology journals such as Infection and Immunity, mBio, J. Bacteriology.
- Documents results of experiments. Uses Excel to make bar graphs, line graphs, heat maps.
- Selects, evaluates and applies techniques used in routine research.
- Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Meets regularly with the PI, team members in lab meetings and weekly group breakouts.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Microbiology or related field.
- Experience in Microbiology or Molecular biology.
- Has strong passion for teamwork.
- Has strong analytical and technical skills with attention to detail and willing to take instruction.
