Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Di Stefano lab focuses on the the basic mechanisms that regulate cell fate and how their mis regulation leads to cancer development. The lab is looking for a research technician to carry out various supervised animal research projects, maintain a mouse colony, coordinate lab supply maintenance, and perform general lab duties. Responsibilities of this position are split between the laboratory and the mouse room. Laboratory responsibilities include PCR genotyping, tissue culture, western blotting, and sample preparation for flow cytometry. Vivarium responsibilities include breeding, weaning, genotyping sample collection, and record keeping. The technician has excellent organizational skills and a basic understanding of animal research. The lab will provide training in all the required techniques and offer a supportive working environment. Follows established protocols under supervision. The technician will not be responsible for designing or directing experience.

Job Duties

  • Performs mouse colony maintenance that includes genotyping and appropriate record keeping.
  • Addresses mouse husbandry issues when notified by the veterinary staff.
  • Follows established protocols under supervision.
  • Assists with the maintenance of lab equipment, ordering from BCM supply room, and the general lab environment.
  • Maintains organization of the lab and its reagents, trains others in various cellular and molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, cell culture) and assists in research projects, as necessary.
  • Collects, compiles, records, and analyzes research data.
  • Performs molecular biology experiments under the supervision of research staff.
  • Maintains laboratory inventory.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with mouse husbandry, animal experiments, and molecular biology is desired.
