Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Department of Pediatrics - Section of Oncology is seeking a Research Technician to join an interdisciplinary team of scientists broadly interested in understanding how the brain acquires and metabolizes lipids and how imbalances in cerebral lipid metabolism contributes to the pathogenesis of neuroimmune/neurodegenerative diseases and brain tumors. The lab uses a combination of chemical biology, analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry-based omics, imaging, and in vivo tools to investigate the fundamentals of brain lipid homeostasis. 

Job Duties

  • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments. Performs techniques that include PCR, western blot, tissue culture, protein expression and purification,  metabolite extraction, chromatography, mass spectrometry.
  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes data. 
  • Presents data during internal lab meetings.
  • Conducts literature searches through and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Documents results of experiments.
  • Selects, evaluates, and applies techniques used in routine research.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment through BCM and TCH procurement systems.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS Office Suite (i.e. intermediate Excel skills) is a plus.
