Summary
Research Technician II will work in a team to perform genetic screens to identify CRISPR insertions in specific genes using Drosophila (fruit flies). This involves working with stereomicroscopes to set up breeding schemes with multiple Drosophila strains. This technician will also perform behavioral assays to characterize the phenotypes associated with the isolated mutants. In addition, s/he will dissect larval and adult brains and stain them with antibodies to determine the expression patterns of the genes.
Job Duties
- Performs drosophila genotyping using PCR.
- Performs Western blot experiments.
- Conducts immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy.
- Works on data analysis using ImageJ, photoshop, and excel.
- Records results in digital notebook.
- Conducts assays to assess and quantify neurotoxic protein levels using immunoblotting techniques.
- Conducts histopathological analyses from Drosophila brain sections immunostained with specific antibodies.
- Presents acquired data regularly in lab meetings.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Recent graduates looking to gain research experience before pursuing gradute education.
