Job Title:  Research Technician II - Microbiome Science
Division:  Molecular Virology and Microbiology
Work Arrangement:  Onsite only
Location:  Houston, TX
Salary Range:  $39,150 - $41,872
FLSA Status:  Nonexempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The individual in this position will perform research into how the human microbiome impacts health and disease. Care of and handling of rodent models is a primary responsibility of this position. Additional responsibilities may include conducting behavioral experiments, measurement of biological markers of disease, and/or isolation and culturing of microbes.  Under the direction and general supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Research Technician will collaborate with other team members to conduct research. The successful applicant will become well-trained in state of the art techniques for studying host:microbiome interactions using in vivo and in vitro techniques.

 

The individual must have flexibility in work schedule to occasionally work evenings or weekends.

Job Duties

  • Care of animals and sample collection.
  • Conduct behavioral experiments with mice.
  • Prepare and conducts laboratory research experiments.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data.
  • Document results of experiments.
  • Contribute to laboratory and project meetings.
  • Conduct literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format as directed by the PI.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The individual must have strong attention to detail.
  • The individual must have strong analytical Thinking/Problem Solving.
  • The individual must be able to follow established procedures and properly record results; have excellent interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication skills; capable of working alone and as part of highly collaborative teams.
  • Experience in animal care.
  • Experience in microbiology.
  • Experience in molecular biology.
