Job Title:  Research Technician II - Microbial Natural Products

Salary Range:  $35,591 - $41,872
FLSA Status:  Nonexempt
Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

The Johnston lab is searching for an entry level technician to assist in general lab duties. Reflecting the lab's focus on applying chemical and molecular biology methods to study antibacterial natural products, this position is intended to provide general support on several projects through a variety of chemical and biological techniques. Method-specific instruction and supervision will be provided to ensure  a productive training environment.

Job Duties

  • Assists with the preparation of laboratory reagents and media, cleaning glassware, and general laboratory maintenance.
  • Performa specific experiments for projects within the lab under the supervision of graduate students or postdoctoral fellows.
  • Performs relevant experiments or procedures that includes in vitro protein assays, cloning DNA plasmids, chemical extraction of bacterial cultures, and analysis or purification of small molecules by liquid-chromatography coupled mass-spectrometry (LCMS).
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BSc in a relevant scientific discipline, such as chemistry, biochemistry, or biology.
  • Past lab experience (e.g. a thesis project or summer work in a chemistry, biochemistry, or biology lab) would be beneficial.
