The Research Technician I position available in the Baylor College of Medicine Knockout Mouse Phenotyping Program Production and Phenotyping group. The role supports the overall project goal of high-throughput evaluation of mouse models of human diseases. The technician will provide skilled care and husbandry of laboratory animals and perform various experimental mouse procedures and complete data entry into a research database. All Baylor College of Medicine Knockout Mouse Phenotyping Program Production and Phenotyping staff members also have regular interactions with Baylor College of Medicine CCM staff as needed in matters of animal colony maintenance, welfare, and research procedures.

Job Duties

  • Assists with the organization of animal housing and research areas.
  • Addresses and resolves animal health and welfare concerns.
  • Performs animal husbandry assignments that include mating, weaning, and colony maintenance.
  • Carries out experimental procedures on mouse test cohorts. Enters colony and phenotyping data to a custom research database.
  • Interacts regularly with the staff members that includes KOMP2 husbandry team and reports to others within this larger group. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in mouse handling. 
  • Experience with computer data. 
  • Able to demonstrate a history of excellent workplace attendance and meticulous work, highly motivated and detail-oriented with strong communication skills.
