Job Purpose

Our research effort is focused on understanding the vascular development and disease using mouse genetic models. We are seeking a new technician to manage our mouse colony, which involves daily weaning, husbandry, tissue clipping and isolation of genomic DNA, and PCR-based genotyping, as well as data and line entry into an electronic database. This position interacts directly with the PI, as well as all members of the lab, and animal care staff at BCM to ensure the colony is properly maintained and experiments can be conducted as efficiently as possible. Other duties include general lab maintenance, ordering, and learning basic histological techniques.

Job Duties
  • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments.
  • Collects, compiles and analyzes data (i.e. mouse colony maintenance and data entry, basic molecular biology and data entry).
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Documents results of experiments.
  • Selects, evaluates and applies techniques used in routine research.
  • Shares general lab maintenance responsibilities with other lab members (cleaning, etc)
  • Orders laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Schedules and organizes maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education Required: Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Experience Required: One year of relevant experience.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: None Required.
