Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Summary

Research Technician I supports the day-to-day operations of the biobank by assisting with sample intake, accessioning, storage, retrieval, and inventory management. This position plays a key role ensuring proper handling of biospecimens, maintaining accurate records in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and supporting biobank staff with general laboratory duties and supply logistics. Work schedule, Monday through Friday, standard business hours, with occasional flexibility depending on operational needs. Has the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and work in cold environments (e.g. freezers, LN2 storage). Frequent standing, walking, and fine motor activities for handling tubes and labels. Uses PPE and adherence to biosafety and bloodborne pathogen protocols.

Job Duties

  • Enters sample metadata, stores locations, and processes status in the LIMS.
  • Flags discrepancies and assists with routine data quality checks.
  • Assists the Research Assistant with sample processing and QC tasks.
  • Maintains clean, organizes workspaces and adheres to safety protocols.
  • Picks up, receives, accesses store, and retrieves biospecimens according to SOPs.
  • Maintains accurate records and chain-of-custody in the LIMS.
  • Orders, receives, unpacks, and tracks laboratory supplies and consumables.
  • Helps monitor inventory levels and expiration dates.
  • Follows all SOPs and biosafety procedures.
  • Supports audits, inspections, and other operational needs as assigned.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a laboratory, clinical, or biobank setting is desired.
  • Proficiency with computers and basic data entry. Experience with LIMS is a plus.
  • Has strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Has the ability to follow written protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Has the ability to work collaboratively in a small team environment.
