Summary

Job Purpose

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Scoliosis at Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) in collaboration with Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), has designated research fellowships to offer US trained MD a 12-month fellowship in pediatric orthopaedic research to begin in July 2021. The fellowship program is an opportunity to work side-by-side with TCH pediatric orthopaedic surgeons, physicians and researchers. Fellows will expand their knowledge and exposure to the field of pediatric orthopaedics and become involved in high-quality clinical and/or basic science research projects.

Job Duties

The research fellow is guided through the research process from the development of a hypothesis to data collection, manuscript writing, and presentation at local, national and international orthopaedic conferences. The fellow has the opportunity to work independently on projects of special interest to him/her or on one of the current institutionally approved studies and is encouraged to interact and collaborate with the department's diversified faculty (each with his/her own area of special interest and expertise). Topics of focus include but may not be limited to spine disorders, sports injuries, cerebral palsy, musculoskeletal tumors, foot/ankle disorders, hip disorders, limb deficiency, and thoracic insufficiency.

  • Must have graduated, or completed a minimum of three years of medical school (M.D.) and interested in matching into an orthopaedic surgery residency program in the U.S.; or PhD interested in pediatric orthopaedic research;
  • Complete application with a cover letter and 3 letters of recommendation;
  • Demonstrate computer literacy in a MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ACCESS plus internet use;
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently with strong attention to detail;Demonstrate ability to handle multiple projects and meet timelines in a dynamic workplace environment;Demonstrate the ability to write English fluently;
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational and verbal and written communication skills, as interaction all levels of staff and research subjects is required;
  • Research experience or demonstration of research interest is required.
  • Fellow Responsibilities If Accepted: 
  • Successfully complete clinical and/or basic research projects during the 12-month period and submit for peer reviewed presentation and/or publication;

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD).
  • Np experience required.
