Job Purpose

Postdoctoral research fellows are trainees working in an apprenticeship mode in preparation for a career as a scientific/medical professional. 

The Division of Congenital Heart Surgery at Texas Children's Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated surgical research fellow to conduct clinical outcomes research in pediatric cardiovascular surgery.This is an opportunity for a self-driven, curious and enthusiastic individual to contribute to a growing surgical research program within the interdisciplinary Texas Children’s Heart Center, with broad scope for collaboration with faculty and staff within Pediatric Cardiology, Cardiovascular Anesthesiology, and Cardiovascular Critical Care Medicine.The appointed research fellow will participate in study design, data collection and analysis, preparation and publication of scholarly research, presentation at local and national meetings, attend departmental and institutional seminars (including grand rounds), and complete didactic training in cardiovascular core curriculum and the responsible conduct of human subjects research. Fellows are encouraged to complete additional postgraduate training in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or a related field during their tenure, for which tuition support will be provided. A research mentor will be appointed to help guide project development and establish a research plan for the fellowship term.The ideal candidate will have experience with clinical outcomes research methodology, qualitative and quantitative study design, biostatistical multivariate analysis, and manuscript preparation. Special consideration will be given to applicants who are committed to an academic career in congenital heart surgery.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD).Completion of one year of an ACGME-accredited surgical residency program; strong research interest in cardiovascular surgery.
  • No experience required.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: None Required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior clinical research experience desirable.
