Summary

The primary purpose of the Research Ophthalmic Technician position is to perform a variety of ophthalmic diagnostic tests on patients depending on the specific study protocol requirements.  The ideal candidate will have a zest for a career in clinical research as well as learn and become proficient with reading study protocols as well as how to resolve queries with study sponsors as needed. 
 

Job Duties

  • Create appointments and assist with scheduling, rescheduling, and/or canceling study visits in EMR.
  • Data entry for research visits in EDC and/or EMR platforms.
  • Conduct vision tests.
  • Assist with crosslinking and in office procedures.
  • Prepare, clean, sterilize and maintain proper stock of all surgical equipment, instrumentation, and medications.
  • Respond to sponsor inquiries and queries in a timely manner.
  • Enter data in EDC based on sponsor requirements.
  • Work directly with study coordinators to ensure patient workups are done according to protocol.
  • Ensure that supplies are stocked for study visits.
  • Attend CME courses to maintain and enhance ophthalmic technician skills.
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technician (COMT).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in ophthalmology 
  • Experience with EMR (Epic preferred)
  • Must have knowledge of ocular anatomy, ophthalmic medications, visual physiology, optics, use and maintenance of ophthalmic and medical regulations, medical terminology, optometric technology, medical ethics, surgical instruments and equipment, ophthalmic injectable medications, anesthetic solutions, and ocular disorders
