This is an opening for a highly motivated nurse to be part of a productive research team. Coordination of research activities for a Pediatric Clinical Research Nursing Unit with performance of metabolic studies and clinical trials. Expertise in phlebotomy, intravenous line placement and processing of biologic specimens.  Good interpersonal and communication skills. Good organization skills.
Research nursing and coordination experience is desirable.  Responsible for performance of research protocols, coordination of nursing unit schedule to accommodate research needs of investigators.   
Familiarity with recruitment and consent of research participants, submission of research protocols for regulatory agencies (IRB; research units).  Maintenance of regulatory binders, scheduling of research visits, assisting physicians/researchers with study procedures and supervision of completion or research protocols.  Bilingual in English/Spanish.  Some evenings and weekends are expected.

Job Duties

  • Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality and safety of research participants, data quality and compliance with human clinical research guidelines.
  • Ensures the clinical studies are conducted in accordance with guidelines of the FDA and other regulatory agencies.
  • Adheres to the scope of practices as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Recruits, screens, enrolls and evaluate patients that participate in a research study.
  • Schedules study visits and meetings related to studies.
  • Performs vital sign checks and assessments during completion of study visits.
  • Performs venipuncture or intravenous line placement and collection of study specimens.
  • Shipment of specimen to labs as needed in coordination with study staff members.
  • Educates participants in significant aspects of study.
  • Serves as a liaison and distributes research information to principal investigator, faculty, research staff, and others as required.
  • Maintains the metabolic research unit calendar and billing.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Two years of relevant experience as a licensed Registered Nurse (RN). Degrees in lieu of experience will not be accepted.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing.Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
