Seeking part-time highly motivated nurse to be part of a productive research team. Familiarity with medical conditions particularly diabetes is desirable. Training in phlebotomy and processing of biologic specimen. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Good organization skills.

Work is located in patient unit/clinical, and/or laboratory areas where there is potential exposures to blood borne pathogens (blood &/or other potentially infectious materials) and drugs.

Work hours will be evening, overnight and weekend.

Job Duties

  • Clinical research nursing procedures include: patient evaluation, obtaining vital signs and anthropometric measurements, collecting blood samples via venipuncture, IV placement, start and maintenance of infusion(s), specimen processing and maintenance of research records.
  • Coordinates of research activities for a Pediatric Clinical Research Program with performance of metabolic studies and clinical trials.
  • Maintains research participant charts, scheduling of research visits, recording research data, and implementing research procedures.
  • Ensures the clinical studies are conducted in accordance with guidelines of the FDA and other regulatory agencies.
  • Assists the physician with study procedures and supervision of completion of research protocols. 
  • Follows protocol orders for study and advise Principal Investigator or designated research coordinator with research participant progress.
  • Maintains supplies stocked in clinical areas, order supplies, maintain clean and safe work environment.
  • Recruits and consents research participants.
  • Submits research protocols for regulatory agencies (IRB; research units).
  • Initial Bloodborne Pathogens Training and a Bloodborne Pathogens Refresher Training must be taken annually. 
  • CITI Training is required to be completed and renewed as indicated.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Two years of relevant experience as a licensed Registered Nurse (RN). Degrees in lieu of experience will not be accepted.
  • Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Research Coordination experience is desirable.
  • Research experience preferred but not required.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
