The Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking an Instructor (MD) position to support faculty in advancing pancreatic cancer research. This role will focus on designing studies to identify and validate novel biomarkers for the early detection of pancreatic cancer, as well as overseeing the transition of these biomarkers into clinical research protocols. Key responsibilities include grant writing, engaging with NIH officers, and collaborating with sponsors and partners to execute contracts and develop research protocols. The instructor will also play a vital role in supporting the Office of Surgical Research by identifying and submitting proposals for funding opportunities.
Additionally, this position involves manuscript preparation and the dissemination of research findings, with a primary focus on pancreatic cancer and related areas within pancreatic and oncologic surgery. The instructor will contribute significantly to both the academic and clinical research missions of the department.
Job Duties
- Performing the following under Dr. Fisher's guidance in his lab:
- Writing grant proposals to secure research funding.
- Designing studies, supervising their execution, and guiding staff in the development of research protocols.
- Creating and managing Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols and handling legal agreements (i.e., Material Transfer Agreements (MTA) and Research Collaboration Agreements (RCA)).
- Establishing and fostering collaborations with industry partners.
- Preparing and submitting abstracts and manuscripts for publication.
- Disseminating research findings at local, national, and international conferences.
- Training students and visiting researchers in the lab.
Minimum Qualifications
Education required: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.). Previous research experience in grant writing, study design, and industry collaborations are preferred.
