The Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Section is seeking an experienced Clinical Research Coordinator.


Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition physicians treat children suffering from intestinal, liver, pancreatic and nutritional disorders. This Baylor/Texas Children's program is one of the largest and busiest in the United States. This position will manage patient recruitment and follow-up for recently activated and ongoing clinical studies in children with various gastrointestinal and liver diseases. These would include treatment trials and longitudinal follow-up studies, some of which are sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The coordinator will ensure patient confidentiality and safety, accurate data collection, documentation, and organization of day-to-day activities for these studies. The coordinator may have opportunities to contribute to manuscripts and other liver-related clinical research projects. This position is part of a team of research coordinators in the section who work collaboratively to ensure successful execution of a broad portfolio of clinical research endeavors in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.

Job Duties

  • Interviews, screen and recruits patients for study; explains process and procedures to educate participant regarding the research study.
  • Collects patient information; processes documents and enters information into a database. May perform
  • Venipunctures (blood draws), EKGs/ECG’s and obtain vital signs on study participants.
  • May collect, process, ship, and maintain paperwork for blood and/or biological specimens according to
  • procedures outlined in study protocol.
  • Employees may be required to receive on the job training of phlebotomy and EKGs/ECGs prior to performing on study participants.
  • Maintains records and regulatory documents and records for research studies.
  • Schedules research participant for tests and procedures such as laboratory tests, x-rays, and other studies specific for the research protocol.
  • Retrieves and submits test results to appropriate party.
  • May correspond with patient throughout study.
  • Orders supplies and equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

  • Must be able to multi-task and meet timeline goals.
  • Good interpersonal skills, high attention to detail, team-goal oriented, ability to stay well organized, and ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with study subjects.
