The Department of Medicine is seeking a Research Coordinator II to take the lead in coordinating several ongoing randomized, controlled trials supported by federal grants. These studies involve intensive lifestyle/behavioral interventions, with or without study drug, of older adults with obesity and frailty to effect safe weight loss and improvement of physical function.

Job Duties

  • Submits required regulatory documents to Investigative Review Board and Research and Development committees and subcommittees. 
  • Prepares and updates informed consent.
  • Collects data and evaluates data.
  • Recruits, screens, and schedules potential subjects.
  • Conducts orientation sessions.
  • Prepares and sends correspondence to participants’ personal physicians.
  • Assembles and maintains study participant charts.
  • Tracks study compliance.
  • Enters data into the study database.
  • Assists in preparation of the data for DSMB meetings.
  • Ensures documentation of consent process in patient’s electronic record.
  • Instructs participants on the proper intake of metformin or placebo (e.g. two tablets bid with meals). 
  • Documents compliance on standardized form.
  • Assists with muscle biopsies.
  • Performs venipuncture for collection of blood samples.
  • Processes samples and proper shipment per regulatory guidelines.
  • Collects and maintains accurate source documentation for each study participants.
  • Documents in CPRS.
  • Completes data entry and responds to queries by investigative team and DSMB.
  • Assures confidentiality and security of human participants and data collected in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with computer spreadsheets and database management.
  • Requires ability to understand and implement patient studies and protocols.
  • Requires interpersonal skills necessary to coordinate research studies.
  • Maintains clear communication and takes personal responsibility and accountability.   
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
