Job Purpose

Coordinates day to day activities of research protocols which include screening, enrollment, and monitoring of research participants. Ensures accurate data collection, documentation, organization and safety of research participants.

Job Duties

The Research Coordinator II in the HIV Program, under the supervision of the Director of the HIV Program, will primarily be responsible for recruitment and follow-up of patients in multiple protocols.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

a. Conducting patient interviews to screen for study eligibility
b. Confirming eligibility by detailed review of the clinical record
c. Maintaining case report forms
d. Responding promptly to any queries generated by the sponsor
e. Performing venipunctures on HIV positive patients
f. Processing blood and stool samples for collection and storage and preparing and sending samples to designated reference laboratories
g. Submitting adverse events, updated investigator's brochures, consent revisions and protocol amendments to the Baylor Affiliates Review Board and the VA R&D Committee
h. Maintaining study logs and providing weekly enrollment updates to the Principal Investigator.
i. Scheduling research appointments for study patients
j. Performing procedures that are protocol specific
k. If pertinent, keeping a petty cash log for multiple studies with appropriate documentation.
l. Administering study-related questionnaires
m. Screening patient calls for appropriate referral to the Principal Investigator and/or Primary Care Provider
n. Maintaining Certification for Protection of Human Subjects
o. Maintaining OSHA training in blood borne pathogens
p. Maintaining Certification for Shipping of Hazardous Materials
q. Maintaining Good Clinical Practice Training
r. Attending protocol-related meetings, locally and nationally
s. Maintaining a good working relationship with all investigators and study personnel
t. Attending protocol-related meetings, locally and nationally
u. Participating in sponsor generated conference calls

Also, it is expected that the Research Coordinator II will attend the HIV Program research and clinical educational activities, and other educational activities that may be pertinent to enhancing research and clinical expertise.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Required: One year of relevant experience.
