Summary

This hourly position supports the evening and overnight research activities of Dr. Christopher Verrico's study at the MEDVAMC. The selected candidate will be responsible for coordinating and conducting key research procedures during night shifts, including blood sample collection, participant monitoring, and study protocol compliance. In addition, the candidate will ensure participant safety and attend to participant needs, fostering a supportive and professional research environment.

 

Shift Hours: Evening and overnight hours, with flexibility required based on study needs.

 

Environment: This role requires spending extended hours at the MEDVAMC, interacting with study participants and hospital staff

Job Duties

  • Collect, process, and maintain biological specimens and associated paperwork in accordance with research protocols.
  • Record and enter participant information into research databases accurately and promptly.
  • Liaise with MEDVAMC personnel to facilitate research procedures and ensure proper data transfer.
  • Explain study procedures and educate participants about the research study objectives and activities.
  • Tend to participant needs during night shifts, including escorting participants on snack or smoke breaks and addressing basic comfort needs.
  • Monitor participants for safety and well-being throughout the study in compliance with research protocols.
  • Schedule participants for research-related tests and procedures, such as laboratory tests and imaging studies, per protocol requirements.
  • Order and maintain necessary supplies and equipment for the research study.
  • Provide general assistance to study participants and address inquiries promptly.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year in clinical or research settings involving direct patient interaction and biological specimen collection.
  • Venipuncture experience is strongly desired.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with participants, researchers, and MEDVAMC staff.
  • Ability to work independently during night shifts while ensuring adherence to research protocols.
